Prada - Spring Summer 2012

I am absolutely loving and impressed as well as shocked by Prada's Spring/Summer 2012 Collection!

1950's Americana and Cadillacs are a huge inspiration for this collection. Cartoon cadillac prints adorn jackets, tops and skirts. While Leather is printed with Cadillac front bumpers and huge flames. I am so in love with this. The 1950's Kustom graphics counter culture has never really entered into mainstream fashion trends so I am so excited by this injection of turbo charged, American rockabilly flavour.

I also love the contrast this creates, feminine floaty long sleeve dresses, with graphic flames along the hem. Beautiful feminine, womanly silhouettes with macho, mechanic car graphics. Genius.

I am excited for how this will filter down into other collections, the high street and so forth...Looking forward to some amazing DIY tutorials inspired by this trend also. I will be making flame stencils and spray painting some of my clothes!!

Grease my palms with silver...

I have always been interested in the occult and fortune telling alike. My Grandma who swears her mother was pyshic taught me to read playing cards and tea leaves and her sister taught me to read palms.
I'm not sure whether it is very accurate or true...but I definitely like the idea of it and even just the fun of exploring it.
I have read a few peoples palms over the years and been frightening accurate. I can also read Tarot Cards...which sadly I have neglected for a few years, but even that has been somewhat truthful at times.

So now I want this!! It's on Amazon and I really want to get it! Cmon payday!!
I also want one of these:

A Phrenology head. I would like to learn more about Phrenology, but in all honestly I want one more because its a frickin sweet ornament.

So yeah....roll on payday so I can drink my tea, read my fortune whilst staring at that dudes bald head xxx

Nude Magazine & Counterculture

So 2012 is well and truly underway and I took it as a good oppurtinity to start a new course!!
Its "Introduction to Contemporary Visual Art: Beyond the Counterculture" at The Cornerhouse in Manchester. My first class was Monday and it was so good!

Lil blurb on the course:

"Hosted by the publishers of the British leftfield arts magazine Nude, this 6 week course will explore notions of counterculture with reference to the visual legacy of a series of subcultures and underground youth movements which have risen to prominence in Western pop culture since the early 1960s.
Beyond the Counterculture will take you on a colourful and provocative journey through the art of the Pin-Up, Surf and Kustom Culture, Psychedelia and underground Comix, the Tiki revival, punk graphics, lowbrow art, Pop Surrealism, designer toys and indie crafting, touching upon the work of Ed Roth, Robert Williams, Shag, Coop, Kozik, Jamie Reid and James Cauty (formerly of the KLF) amongst many others."

The couple who used to run Nude magazine are so lovely and so full of knowledge. It was so great to hear other peoples views and opinions on art and eveyone was encouraged to speak up and get debating. I of course spoke up! And even got to mention that Prada's SS12 collection is inpsired by 1950's Americana and cadillacs.

I loved being in the lecture room environment again. Listening to professionals talk about their creative influences and talking about there journey. It was such a mixture of people, varying in age groups. I can't wait as the course goes on to get chatting to more people and exchanging opnions and ideas!!

Nude magazine is unfortunatley no more....but if you get a chance have a look at the websites where you can get back isssues, and they have launched a book which is a 'Best of' from 2003-2011.

Also the website is a great resource for finding other artists and creative magazines. Very much recommend a look!! Cannot wait for next week xxxxxxxx
